Spring Festival celebrations are coming to an end in China. Monday marks the fifteenth day of the lunar New Year, and it on this day that the Lantern Festival is celebrated.
It is also known as the Yuanxiao Festival, or Shangyuan Festival. Sweet dumplings, called tangyuan in southern China and yuanxiao in northern China, are eaten this day. They are usually served with dessert soup.
Children go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns. The day is a time when families gather together. It officially ends the Chinese New Year celebrations. |
